How long do you need an FR44 Filing?
The FR44 filing is currently only required in Virginia and Florida.
Generally speaking, you need the FR44 filing for 3 years, but this can vary based on many factors, including your conviction date and other dates imposed by the DMV in Virginia or the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. If this is a second, third, or fourth offense, you may have extended requirements. Offenses beyond that could have other requirements. As long as your insurance policy is in force (active), your FR44 should remain valid (unless you cancel it). If your policy should be cancelled at any point while you are required to have an FR44 on file, your insurance company will notify the appropriate entity, such as the DMV. Reinstating a suspended license can be expensive.
